Unlike FM, where you have an all-in transmitter, you feed the audio directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DAB+ transmitter is not fed with audio directly. But with an Ensemble Multiplex signal containing all the audio and data necessary to transmit a DAB+ signal. The Ensemble Multiplex, in his turn, receives the individual encoded (AAC) radio channels. Therefore you need different Encoders in addition.<br><br>It means that transmitting DAB+ signals will need at least 3 devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A DAB+ (AAC) audio encoder (one per radio station),<\/li><li>An Ensemble MUX to multiplex the participating radio stations,<\/li><li>A DAB Transmitter to broadcast the signal.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2500\" height=\"1005\" class=\"wp-image-564\" style=\"width: 2500px;\" src=\"https:\/\/localdab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DAB-Chain-ISW.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/localdab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DAB-Chain-ISW.jpg 1259w, https:\/\/localdab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DAB-Chain-ISW-300x121.jpg 300w, https:\/\/localdab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DAB-Chain-ISW-1024x412.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/localdab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DAB-Chain-ISW-768x309.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><em style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Minimal 3 devices are needed to start your DAB+ broadcasting. <\/em><\/p><cite>ENCODER *  MUX *  DAB TRANSMITTER<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>DAB+ is a<strong>&nbsp;distributed system<\/strong>. The 3 devices do not have to be at one location. They can be spread over different locations and communicate with each other over specific transmission links or IP networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(More detailed information in the \u201cDAB+ in more detail\u201d tab is under preparation)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes the \u201cDAB+ audio encoder\u201d and the \u201cDAB+ MUX\u201d can be the same device, often called the<strong>&nbsp;\u201cDAB+ headend<\/strong>. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cDAB+ headend\u201d is purely software and needs more computer skills than radio technical knowledge. Although to configure \u201cDAB+ audio encoders\u201d and Ensemble Multiplex functions, it is necessary to understand DAB+ principles.
